Employee Rights Review- Desk Audits

Does your Position Description inaccurately describe your current job functions and duties? As time progresses, our job functions change and evolve, however, at times agencies fail to keep up your PD with your current job functions. It is important to know that you are completing the correct duties and responsibilities, not having clear and conscie instructions can create a feeling of doubt and can further lead to problems down the road. How do I know if I should request a review of my current PD? Follow these steps to guide you through the process.


This issue is coveted under Article 9 of the Master Agreement:


  1. Does your PD clearly and conscientiously describe the principal and grande controlling duties, responsibilities and supervisory relationship of your position?

    1. You have a right to have a clear understanding of your role duties and responsibilities.

  2. Is your PD current and accurate?

    1. See when was the last revision of your PD. If your PD was last revised many years ago, it may not accurately reflect your current duties a accurately.

  3. Is your classification standard current with the current OPM guidelines?

    1. The department must provide the Union with the current OPM guidelines, you can seek help with any of our reps for any help requesting clarification.


If you believe that your PD is innacuate, we may first request a review with yor supervisor or HR. A desk audit may be requested as part of this process, your supervisor must complete this process a within 90 days and must be completed at your work station, not as a verbal accounting of your duties. If the results are unsatisfactory and you believe there is still an inequity, an appeal may be submitted to HR or OPM. The outcome will depend on OPMs decision of your appeal.
